Struggle
Definition: To try very hard to do, achieve, or deal with something that is difficult or that causes problems.
Struggle, Poverty, and Racism.
Struggle can be defined as, “Making a forceful or violent efforts to get free restraint or constriction.” Some may dispute that struggle is acceptable. It doesn’t feel good to be in it. Others regard that struggle is unfavorable. Much analysis has been kept on this topic. This essay will argue that against what some admit specifically struggle, specifically poverty and racism, is multidimensional and have implications that can harm us.
Struggle are multidimensional. We see this in Breaking Through. For example, one of the struggles Panchito experiences is being undocumented. This
struggle causes him to live in fear and be deported. Some examples from the text that provide evidence of his fear is when he says,” Yes.” When the border patrol officer came to him and asked him if he was Francisco Jaménez. (page 4) Another example is when he was caught by the border patrol during his class and he was talking to his brother worrying about the situation patrol caught them. An other example is when they were talking about how they can fix their papers and come
back legally, they were struggling with the fact that they are illegal. These are some examples that show that Panchito is struggling.
Along the lines of struggle being multidimensional, we also examine its implications. Once again using Breaking Through Panchito struggles with poverty. Poverty affects Panchito’s education, living conditions child labor, and health. There are examples from the book that shows the implications of poverty. One example is he has to miss school to work in fields to provide money for his family. (page 22-23) This shows that this impacts his education because he is missing school, but he is Trying helping his family by helping them with money. Another example is that he Lives in a small village. (page 1) This shows how it affected his living conditions. Another example is he has to work in the fields weekend. (page 22-23) This shows That he works hard and trys to help his family with money. A last example is that Panchito’s father has back problems. (page 5-6) This shows how Panchito also helps his father with his back problems. These are some examples that show that Panchito has struggle with poverty.
There are implications of poverty found in other sources. Poverty affects on how people are treated. An example of how people are treated is,” The people who have worked hard, who have escaped from poverty, who have gone through the various income levels to become middle class, upper class, rich, wealthy, they all of the sudden have become the enemies of the country.” People that are in poverty are treated like if they don’t exists. But some people do care for the people that are in poverty because maybe they know how it is to be in their situation. An other example is that “People don’t want to help people in poverty maybe because they think that its not their problem that their in that situation and they don’t have time to help them.” The last example is when people are in poverty and they ask other people for help, the people that are being asked just walk away or ignore them. But some people are not like that, they get in their way to help them even if they are going through a hard time, struggling. In, conclusion, people are treated very bad when they are in poverty, people don’t help them or people ignore them, but not everyone, some people do help even though they are probably struggling too, but very few help.
Poverty also affects health. An example of how poverty affects health is,” In villages, we see more and more mothers not being able to feed their children more than once a day. We can’t wait until it becomes one meal every second day and those children are starving,” An other example is that people are struggling with mental health. Kids say that they see their parents argue, fight, and yell at each other and they noticed their parents sad, worried, and frustrated. An other example is that people are affected because they smoke and if they smoke they can be addicted to smoking and die. These are some examples on how poverty affects health, in many different ways.
Living conditions are also affected in poverty. An example of how living conditions are affected by poverty is,” Poverty is a multi-faceted phenomenon which affects not only the ability to purchase goods, but also vulnerability towards various pressures that may prohibit an individual from enjoying life.” An other statement of how poverty affects living conditions is,” This section of the report presents results of a multi-variate analysis of the relationship between various social and economic aspects of living conditions and poverty as measured by purchasing power.” These are some examples of how poverty affects living conditions.
Poverty is also affecting education. This is an example of how poverty affects education,” Just as the phrase middle class tells us little about a person, the word poverty typically tells us little about the students we serve.” An other example is, “ The poor and middle classes have many overlapping values, including valuing education and the importance of hard work.” The last example on how poverty is affecting education is,” Seven differences between middle-class and low-income students show up at school. By understanding those differences and how to address them, teachers can help mitigate some of the negative effects of poverty.” These are some examples of poverty affecting living conditions.
In conclusion, poverty affects on how people are treated, in health, in living conditions, and in education. People are highly affected by poverty. Some may argue that poverty is good because it teaches us a lesson, but I disagree. I think poverty is bad because it affects us in many different ways. Poverty needs to stop.
Poverty is not the only struggle that has negative implications; racism is just as damaging. Racism is defined as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race. Another words it means the act of saying cruel things about someone. Things that you say about others is often a reflection of yourself; The act of being making a complete fool of yourself.
There are examples and implications in the book, Breaking Through, Roberto meet a girl, named Susan, and her parents didn’t want her to date Roberto because he was Mexican. (page 106). This shows that her parents were being racist because Roberto is Mexican and they don’t want Susan to date Mexican people and this makes him broken. Panchito told his mom not to cook him tacos for dinner. This shows that people were being racist and that made Panchito not want to eat tacos for dinner and because someone was coming over his house. These are some examples and implications on how racist is affecting.
Racism also comes in the movie 42. It is about a man named Jackie Robinson and how he made it to the Dodgers team and white men started to judge him for his race and telling him he can’t play because he is African – American. In the beginning of the movie, Jackie and his friends were playing baseball and when they were done they went to a gas station to get some gas. When they arrived there, Jackie was making his way to the bathroom. A worker was telling Jackie that he couldn’t use the bathroom because it was for whites only. This is an example of Segregation.
An other example is when the Dodgers and the Giants were playing ball, one of the
players, in the team of the Giants, was calling Jackie names. Saying that he can’t play
because he is African- American. This shows racism.
There are other examples from the movie 42, of racism. A group of men, from
the Dodgers, wrote a note reading that they will not play in the same field as Jackie
Robinson. This shows that the men were being racist. An other example is when a
white man threatened Jackie by saying that if he doesn’t move away from town, a
group of men will come and beat him up. This is racist because he doesn’t want
Jackie to play with the Dodgers. These are all examples from the movie 42 about
racism.
Struggle is my friend. Struggle is my friend because it helps my strength
Increase. Struggle is not bad for you, it actually helps you. It helps you because when
you go through a hard time, you will appreciate life and it helps you be wiser and
you learn and you become more humble and grateful. If we didn’t have struggle then
we wouldn’t be wise. This is why struggle is my friend.
In conclusion, struggle and racism are both very bad things to go through and
you wouldn’t want to go through it too. I talked about how people judged Panchito
because he was Mexican. In the movie 42, Jackie was treated very bad. You don’t
have to be afraid, mad, etc because struggle helps you. Struggle is every ones friend.
